What Is Tree Inspection?

Trees stand for years, unassuming and often undeterred. However, sometimes there may be problems creeping through it that you might not easily notice and that could cause serious long-term issues. Tree inspections are professional examinations of the health of your tree based on its structure and surroundings. Led by a trained arborist, a tree inspection will involve looking at the bark, branches, and other parts to determine its general health.

The main goal of a tree inspection is to identify any health issues that might cause problems in the future, such as predicting whether a weak tree might fall and damage your property. Tree inspections can also help identify any viruses or diseases that your tree carries and might spread to other plants.

What Is Stump Grinding?

If you have a tree stump on your property, such as after cutting down a tree or after a tree has fallen due to a storm, you might want to have that stump ground so you can maintain a safe yard and better utilize the space.

A tree stump is the last remaining part of a tree trunk extending up from the ground. Stump grinding is the process of grinding down that tree stump until it is virtually gone, as well as removing roots of the stump that have taken hold. While some might elect to have the stump removed, stump grinding is oftentimes more favorable because it will not leave as massive of a hole in your yard (removal entails getting rid of every single root) and still does the job.

Stump grinding can only be done with the proper stump grinder equipment, and different machines can grind stumps at different depths. Our standard is to grind the stump until it’s gone, which could mean going deeper for some trees than others (e.g., oak trunks typically extend deeper than sycamore trunks).

The material in your yard around the stump can impact how deep the stump grinder machine can go. We will consider any concrete, fencing, sprinkler systems, buried hoses, and even nearby tree roots that surround the stump. There may be unforeseen obstacles under the ground that require shallower or more careful stump grinding, but we will take care not to grind too deep and interfere with buried utilities and roots. It is best for you to inform our team of any hidden sprinkler systems or other things that lie in the vicinity of the stump.

What Happens After the Stump Is Ground?

After a stump is ground, the tree will not re-sprout, and the roots will simply wither away over time, decomposing into the soil. In rare cases, some species of trees may still sprout shoots or new growth from the underground roots, but these sprouts can simply be trimmed or mown down and will eventually stop returning. In any case, once your stump has been ground, you can count on a clean, new area in your yard without the jutting mark of a tree trunk.

Additionally, one common by-product of stump grinding is mulch, which is left over from the dirt and ground parts of the tree. Mulch can be valuable for your yard and gardening, and it also decomposes quickly. Mulch from stump grinding is often used by clients for composting or in their flower beds.
